Benefits of joining our trust

Our mission - an overview

Our committed and inspiring Trust leaders

  • Our Trust was founded in 2013 by experienced school leaders with a long track record of improving schools within Gloucestershire and beyond.
  • We embrace every Trust school for its unique identity, while working with one collective goal: equity of education for all children.
  • We aim to inspire everyone who works within the Trust to see beyond their own school, looking for opportunities to do what they can to ensure all children leave a GLA school with a sense of confidence, proud of what they have achieved.

Our ambition for every child

  • We believe in equity of education for every child in our Trust.
  • We effectively combine resources and expertise so that our schools can support every child to fulfil their potential.
  • This means they can leave primary school excited and empowered to develop their talents further in the next stage of their education.

Our role as employer of choice

  • We support staff at all levels to recognise their potential and take full advantage of the extensive opportunities on offer to grow their career and increase their positive impact.
  • Staff say the benefits of being part of the Trust include support for their role, opportunities for career development and a ready-made professional network.

Our role as providers of local schools of first choice

  • Our schools sit at the heart of their unique localities, ranging from centuries old villages to brand new housing estates.
  • They maintain a strong local identity, working with a deep knowledge of the communities they serve. Families say that their children feel safe and happy in our schools.

Our evidence-led approach

  • As an EEF Research School, our approach to school development is grounded in evidence of what works.
  • Within our supportive, reflective school communities we discuss our challenges, investigate solutions, and implement thoughtfully. We devote time to monitoring impact to ensure that our solutions are effective and sustainable.

Our culture of collaboration

  • We believe that every member of staff has a valid contribution to make.
  • Staff at all levels collaborate flexibly within and between schools, sharing their collective expertise transparently and with precision to bring about sustained school development and improvement.

Our strong governance

  • Our governance has been recognised by Ofsted as strong and effective, which reflects our commitment to robust accountability.
  • At Trust Board level we have a diverse range of skills and experience for leaders to draw upon.
  • At the school level, our aim is for parents and other community members to provide support and challenge via Community Committees.

Don't just take our word for it ...

Danielle Morley - Headteacher at Northway Infant School:

Through joining the GLA, our school community is now part of a collaborative, forward thinking and expert network which stretches beyond the idea of just 'being in a trust'. There is a real sense of belonging, and a passionate drive to be better together, ensuring that all children achieve and believe that they can be the best versions of themselves they deserve to be. When schools push through barriers, form strong relationships, share expertise and challenge the ever-changing educational landscape, it enables everyone at every layer of a school to provide the highest standard of education young people deserve. We look forward to shaping the future together as part of the GLA!

Tris Evans - Co-Headteacher at Carrant Brook Junior School:

Personally I believe that having access to the wide, collaborative network amongst the schools and the senior and central teams has definitely been one of the most valuable benefits to date. Knowing that this expertise and support is ‘on tap’ has such a positive impact, not only on what I do on a day to day basis, but also with regards to what I can achieve with my own personal development, thereby supporting me in being an effective leader and having the most impact. Basically, being the best that I can be when ‘Championing Children’.

Prior to joining GLA, a huge concern was not so much that as a school we would lose autonomy (as I have always believed that a school is a nucleus of its community and that each school therefore reflects the needs of that community) but, if the rumours were to be listened to, having to become rigidly uniformed in all areas. I am pleased to say that four months in, I am relieved to find this is very much a misconception.

Maria Budd - Co-Headteacher at Carrant Brook Junior School:

Even before we officially joined GLA in May 2024, I was made to feel supported and valued by the Trust.  There is an embedded culture of openness alongside a genuine desire for all children to achieve their potential.  In addition to the excellent professional development on offer, GLA employs an amazing and knowledgeable team, who are always on hand to help where they can...'nothing is too much trouble'
